I sell miscellaneous items online (Amazon, eBay & Etsy) and I do believe that multi-depth boxes may be one of the greatest inventions ever! The products I sell range in size from small and flat to large(ish) and tall.
The way the multi-depth shipping box works is the length & width are set sizes and the height varies. For example one of the boxes I use the most is 12 inches long, 12 inches wide, and the height can vary from 8, 10 or 12 inches. So depending on the number of items ordered I can make this box 8 inches tall or for a larger order it can be 12 inches tall.
If I did not have the multi-depth boxes available I would have to keep 20+ different size shipping boxes on hand in order to be able to pack and ship my orders. Not only would that be cost prohibitive for me but they would also take up much more space here in our facility.
These boxes are available at one of my favorite suppliers, www.packagingsupplies.com. They are the same exact material as a standard shipping box, so no need to worry about it being a lesser quality box that may not hold up against all the abuse packages may endure in the shipping process.
Since there is no 1-size box that works for me the multi-depth boxes work perfectly.
